Young Life / Alvo da Mocidade Established: 1966

Brazil is the largest country in South America, the fifth-largest in the world, and a place more than 190 million people call home. It is the largest national economy in Latin America. Young Life has enjoyed a long history of ministry in Brazil, first established in 1966 under the guidance of founder Jim Rayburn. In the intervening years, ministry has quietly flourished as those who grew up in the program remained involved as adults. Today, Iberê Meirelles leads a team of more than 200 volunteer leaders and a staff of 35 spread across the regions of Belo Horizonte, the capital city of Brasilia, Campinas, Ribeirão Preto, Rio Preto, São Paulo and Uberlandia. Efforts in Brazil demonstrate a healthy, stable ministry with a solid reputation for leadership training that has already seen years of success, and is primed to see years more.
